Working Parent: How to Balance Your Career and Baby

When it comes to parenting, you’ll want to make sure that you are always there for your child. You will need to strengthen your relationship and make sure your children are safe, especially at a young age! After all, you’ll want to make sure you stay close with them through making memorable experiences with them. But as a working parent, it may be difficult to balance out your priorities. Sure, looking after your child should be your number one priority, but so is making an income for them to make sure they have the basic necessities and education. So you’ll need to know how to properly schedule your work while being there for your child.

But how do you do that? This is where I help you, a fellow working parent, by sharing the tips I follow. These tips help me balance my priorities and work-family life.

How to Become an Effective Working Parentworking parent

Becoming a working parent isn’t the easiest job, as you now have two things to prioritize. But you can follow these tips to have an easier time juggling both your children and career:

  1. Schedule

This is an obvious tip, but many parents forget time management and often follow the hectic hours of the office rather than prioritizing their children. Yes, overtime hours is good, but would you sacrifice the time you have with your child? Time management is key here. If your children go to school, follow the school hours and always make sure you are home around one or two hours after they are home to see to their homework and other problems.

Try to ask for a flexible schedule with your job, with weekends off so you have more time with your children.

  2. Talk and Be Proactive
Talking with your children is the most important way to keep the relationship alive. Dinner should always be at the table with the complete family talking about their lives or how their day went. As much as possible, remove ALL gadgets or any form of work when together with your children.

Always make sure you have time to attend your children’s extra-curricular activities, such as shows or sports games. Also, try to be there when they do their homework so you can help them out and encourage them to get the high grades they deserve. This shows your children that you are always there to support and love them.

  3. Get a Babysitter

The work can be a bit too much to handle. So it may be best to hire a reliable babysitter in times you aren’t able to make it home on time.

Finding the Right Job

Sure, the hours of a normal full-time career may be a bit of a hassle, but you can also find other types of jobs that will be able to focus on both your career and family. The first tip is to always go for a job you are passionate for, and not just for the money!

For starters, you can start off with a part-time job while caring for your toddler. Once he hits an age where he begins school, go for a full-time schedule that follows your child’s school hours. That way, he is busy learning while you are working to pay off his tuition fees. There are many job openings you can find online, or through inquiring around your local area.

Another suggestion would be to try freelancing. Freelancing using your skills, or becoming a personal assistant, can be great. It will allow you to work from home while caring for your child. You can find a lot of freelancing gigs online, or to ask offices around you if you can work from home. You can become a writer, a personal assistant, or even an online tutor. Just make sure you have the Internet access and the time management to juggle work and children while you’re at home.

In Conclusion

Parents are now beginning to juggle work and family life, and that isn’t a bad thing. As long as you know how to balance it, you’ll be able to achieve both financial goals while helping your child grow. Being a working parent may be difficult. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible! Through the right tips and balance, you can keep your relationship with your family strong, while moving forward in your career.
